Have you ever got your PC infected by your USB thumb drive? Well, many people had. How did it get infected?
When you plugged in your thumb drive on someone else's PC that is infected, your thumb drive will automatically get infected.
Then when you plugged your infected thumb drive into your PC, your PC will get infected.
Even your MP3 player, digital camera or hand phone can get infected too when you connect them to your PC.
Solution: A write-protected thumb drive is your only guarantee of avoiding such infection.
Your write-protected thumb drive will never get infected if the write-protection switch is turned on as the virus cannot be written on the thumb drive. You can hardly find any shop selling a thumb drive that comes with a write-protect switch due to high production costs.
You will save your investment many times over just by avoiding one infection. Don't take the risk by using a normal thumb drive; get a write-protect one instead.

Switch to write-protect before inserting.
Use as normal. Your thumb drive will never get infected.
To write/copy to thumb drive,
oOpen the source drive (normally double-clicking C:\)
oNormally a virus linked to autorun.inf will execute and infect every drive the moment you double-click an infected drive. Your thumb drive is write-protected and you are safe. Normally a virus stops after each attempted infection. (Tip: To prevent executing a virus in an infected drive, right-click then click open.)
oNavigate to your source folder.
oOpen your thumb drive and navigate to destination folder.
oSwitch off the write-protect.
oDrag the files or folders to your thumb drive.
oThis is only a precaution and this process does not guarantee no infection.
How to disable autorun.inf in any or all drives?
Microsoft provides a software called TWEAKUI.EXE with their set of Power Tools software.
Run this program and within the program, click "My Computer" then "AutoPlay" then "Drives" and untick all the drives from A to Z. This will disable autorun when a thumb drive or hard disk is inserted into your computer.
The next time you put in a suspicious thumb drive, remember to right-click the drive and then click open. Do not double-click.
